My Top 5 Theatre Experiences

For today's post I thought I'd share my top 5 theatre experiences. Since 2017, I've become much more invested in musical theatre and have been lucky enough to see a lot of shows on the West End and regional venues. They're in no particular order but these are my top 5 from the past few years.

1. The Addams Family UK Tour

This show is so special to me. I've always liked theatre but after seeing this show I was introduced to so many incredible performers which led to me discovering so many new shows and I guess it started my love for the arts and I haven't really looked back since. My Dad bought me tickets for the first UK tour back in 2017 for my birthday and 15 year old me couldn't have been more excited. I remember that night so well and wish I could relive it all over again. I've got my tickets for the 2021 tour and cannot wait to see this show again.

2. Heathers West End Closing Night

The majority of my 2018 was spent travelling to London just to see Heathers. I saw the show 7 times which may seem like a lot to some or not so much to others but regardless, I look back at that year and it's all I can remember. Taking my GCSEs that year seems like a big blur. Because I saw the show so many times, closing night was one I looked forward to for ages. The final performance was simply incredible and there was a lot of tears! At the start of the year I knew little to nothing about the show and by the end it became my favourite show and still is to this day!

3. & Juliet First Preview

I booked tickets for the first preview of & Juliet early 2019 and the show didn't begin till September so it was a long time coming but I still can't get over how blown away I was that night. I'm so lucky I got to see the very first performance of this show because it really is one of the best musicals out there right now. It just goes to show that jukebox musicals can be just as good as an original. It’s hard to believe that the songs weren’t written specifically for the show as they fit with the entire story perfectly. I remember coming out of the theatre speechless and I immediately booked tickets for a few days after as once just wasn't enough.

4. Les Misérables Staged Concert First Preview

With such a stellar cast I couldn't miss out of the chance to see this event. I managed to get tickets for the very first preview as it was the day after my 17th birthday and was amazed. The actually day itself was very eventful and I could write an entire blog post on it but the show itself was just breath-taking. The entire cast were excellent and I couldn't fault a single moment. It was one of those times that I had to pinch myself whilst watching as I just couldn't believe what I was witnessing. It really was a spectacular production.

5. Back To The Future Opening Night

If you know me or have read a few of my previous posts you're probably sick of me talking about this one but I just had to include it. Back To The Future was my very first press night and also the last time I was in a theatre before lockdown. I'd seen the show twice during previews prior to this night and I'd been thinking about booking a press night ticket for a while but never got round to it. I was sat in McDonalds eating lunch the afternoon of opening night and was browsing the ATG website (as you do) and saw one remaining ticket for £13 so at that point it was inevitable that I would end up there. I went by myself at night which isn't something I'd usually do but I had the best time. Walking towards the theatre and seeing the deloreon and the red carpet was an experience in itself, but I also got to meet quite a few theatre stars that night along with a brief encounter with Bob Gale. The show itself is all kinds of incredible and I'm so eager for it to return next year.

So that was my top 5 theatre experiences and I'm sure there's many more to come!
