I’ve grown up with musical theatre and have been performing since I was 6. There’s hundreds of great musicals out there, so many incredible storylines and songs to listen to. It wouldn’t be right for me to have a blog without doing the musical theatre tag!
1. 1. What was the first musical you ever
saw?
The first show I ever saw was Mary Poppins! I was 6 and I remember
seeing it on tour with my parents. I’m hoping to revisit the show in the West
End soon!
2. 2. What was your favourite musical growing
up?
Wicked. I loved it from the first moment I listened to the
soundtrack when I was about 9 or 10 and I’m still a massive fan now!
3. 3. Were you ever in a musical?
Yes, I was in a few shows growing up. The first show I ever
did was Joseph at my dance school, followed by Oliver and a pantomime version
of Aladdin. I also did Beauty and The Beast when I was in Year 9 at school
which has to be my favourite.
4. 4. What was the first musical you
ever saw on Broadway?
Unfortunately, I’ve never been to New York, but its my dream
holiday destination. I’ve seen plenty of shows on the West End though, the
first being Les Misérables in 2016.
5. 5. If you could be any female
character in any musical who would you be and why?
I’ve always wanted to play Nancy in Oliver or Mrs Lovett in
Sweeney Todd, but recently my dream roles have been Janis in Mean Girls or Jennifer
in Back to The Future.
6. 6. Which male character?
Evan in Dear Evan Hansen or Marty McFly in Back to The
Future.
7. 7. Favourite musical song to sing in
the shower?
Recently I’ve been loving Dead Mom from Beetlejuice and I’d
Rather Be Me from Mean Girls.
8. 8. Who is your favourite theatre
actress?
Carrie Hope Fletcher! Her voice is all kinds of incredible
and I think she’s a terrific actress.
9. 9. Actor?
I have quite a few. Oliver Ormson, Rob Houchen, Bradley Jaden,
Aaron Tveit and Jeremy Jordan!
10. 10. Favourite film adaptation of a
musical?
I think the film version of Hairspray is a classic! I also love
Into The Woods.
11. 11. What do you think is the most
underrated musical?
I wanted to do a whole blog post dedicated to my favourite
underrated shows but if I had to pick one I’d go with Little Women! I saw it
back in 2017 at Hope Mill Theatre in Manchester and absolutely loved it!
12. 12. Overrated musical?
I’d say 9 to 5, Company and Phantom are popular shows I don’t
really like.
13. 13. What musical made you cry?
I’ve never cried at a show more than I did at Ghost.
14. 14. What musical made you laugh?
The funniest show I’ve seen has
to be The Book of Mormon. I saw it four times last year on tour in Manchester
and it was hilarious!
15. 15. Are they any musicals you saw and
hated?
I love musical theatre so there’s no shows I can say I absolutely
hate. However, the last show I saw that I didn’t really like as was 9 to 5. The
story isn’t the best and I didn’t love most of the songs. ‘Get Out and Stay Out’
is a great song though which I love!
16. 16. What musical do you want to see as
a film?
I’m really excited to see the film adaptation of In The Heights!
I’d also love the musical version of Heathers to be adapted into a film one
day!
17. 17. Which musicals are you dying to
see?
I’m desperate to see Mean Girls, I’m really hoping it gets a
West End transfer one day. I’d also love to see The Prince of Egypt.
18. 18. Any movie or book you think should
be turned into a musical?
I’d love to see ‘When The Curtain Falls’ by Carrie Hope
Fletcher as a musical. I think it would work great onstage!
19. 19. What is your all-time favourite musical?
This is a hard one. I love The Addams Family as it introduced
me to musical theatre properly. I’ve always loved theatre but after seeing the
show tour in 2017 and watching Carrie Hope Fletcher’s vlog series ‘Watch Me
Wednesday’, I learnt a lot about the theatre industry and met so many great people because of it. I also
love Heathers as I simply can’t fault it. Pretty much my entire 2018 was
dedicated to this show, I really don’t think I could ever get bored of it.There are so many more musicals I love that I haven’t mentioned. If you’d like to have a listen to some of my favourite show tunes, head over to my Spotify here.
