9 to 5 The Musical is currently playing in London’s West End, at The Savoy Theatre and is now heading out on tour across the UK. The show features Amber Davies, Louise Redknapp and many more and follows three female colleagues, Doralee, Violet and Judy who team up after being sexually harassed and looked down on by their boss Mr Hart. They come together and kidnap their sexist boss, taking the business into their own hands.
The set for this show is very impressive and gave the illusion of never ending office lighting. Dolly Parton herself is introduced on the clock face of the 9 to 5 set up.
Louise Redknapp has a beautiful and strong voice and lead the company very well. This is the first time I’ve seen Amber Davies perform and she was incredible. She really shines and proves that she is in her own right an outstanding stage actress with a very impressive set of vocals. She delivered a flawless and hilarious performance.
Who really shined in my opinion was Georgina Castle, her portrayal of Dolly’s Doralee was remarkable, right down to accent, vocals and body language.
Sean Needham and Lucinda Lawrence were the prime comedians of the show and had the audience laughing a lot.
Lucinda Lawrence plays Roz Keith, a female employee head over heels for Mr Hart. She follows him around like a love sick puppy, enforcing his ridiculous rules. Her performance of was very entertaining.
Sean Needham gave a wonderful performance as Mr Hart and we all laughed hysterically at his misfortune.
The ensemble provide a strong performance throughout and they’re one of the most energetic companies I’ve ever seen.
This show doesn’t have the best musical score but numbers like ‘Get Out And Stay Out’ and the hit song itself, ‘Nine To Five’ were the highlights of the show. I felt the story itself felt quite repetitive and lacked interest for me and felt like it needed to go somewhere new.
Despite this, the show was a great way to spend the afternoon.
