Rip It Up stars Strictly Come Dancing favourites Harry Judd, Aston Merrygold, Louis Smith MBE and Jay McGuiness as they delve into the swinging sixties with their brand new production ‘Rip It Up the 60s!’, which is currently playing at the Garrick Theatre.
I am huge strictly fan myself, so I had to book tickets for this whilst I was in London for the week! The four Strictly stars danced and sung to songs from British legends such as The Beatles and the Bee Gees and threw in a mix of American singers such as The Beach Boys, Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Aretha Franklin, and Motown icons Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder. They were accompanied by some amazing dancers, an exceptional live band and singers, and together made the show an enjoyable throwback night out for the audience.
Particularly memorable are the individual dance routines by McGuiness, Merrygold, Judd and Smith. All Strictly-esque numbers are technically impressive but there is also an emotion invested in the performances with their dance partners. A stand out for me was Harry Judd’s contemporary number, which I thought was performed excellently, and Aston Merrygold showed off his stunning vocals throughout the show.
Jay McGuiness also demonstrated great vocal skills, whilst Louis Smith MBE brought some of his fantastic gymnastics skills along with Harry Judd, giving us an excellent drum solo, taking us back to his days in McFly.
This show is essentially a fast-paced, fun-packed two hours of Strictly Come Dancing. Thrilling and excitable.
